From South Africa to Cumbria...to the South Coast!
Based in Berkshire, Kylie Wright draws her artistic inspiration from the boundless landscapes of her birthplace, Cumbria, as well as her formative years living in the dramatic and ever-changing coastal environment of the southern tip of Africa, Western Cape region. She has continued to explore the shapes, light and colour and weather of the coastline of Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. Where she can be found researching, photographing, sketching and painting 'plein-air'.
She gained a degree after 4 years of study in Cape Town and has a PGCE in Art & Design (Goldsmiths College London) and a Masters in Art Education (Institute of Education UCL).
Her art is an exploration of the intricate connection between human beings, the natural world, and the forces of nature, all coalescing to form a living, breathing piece of art.

Kylie's work is a bridge between the human experience and the natural world, presenting them as inextricably intertwined. She delves into the beauty of natural cycles, the rhythmic ebb and flow of movement, and the expression of 'time', colour, and energy.
In her early artistic career, Kylie's work became a vessel for exploring existentialism within the tumultuous social and political landscape of South Africa. Her art was a layered tapestry of painted and drawn elements, each drawn from memory, with a particular emphasis on 'automatic' mark-making and encoded meaning. It was a means of both expression and introspection, delving deep into the human psyche and the world around us.

Kylie predominantly paints using acrylics, as she finds their versatility perfectly suited to creating an ever-evolving, in-the-moment creative language.
